Further Education Libraries

There are 26 colleges in the East Midlands region, including:

18 general FE/Tertiary

2 land based

4 sixth forms

2 specialist providing for people with disabilities

Together they provide for around 400,000 learners (2005/06 figs) and as such are collectively the largest provider of learning in the region. (source - AoC Directory of East Midlands colleges 2007/08).

The College libraries support learning across a wide range of general prevocational, vocational and specialist learning from Entry to HE level and across 15 sector subject areas.

Increasingly FE colleges are providing training in the workplace through Work Based Learning and Train to Gain contracts. Where it is a requirement, FE Libraries do support offsite learners largely through providing access to online resources and virtual libraries.
