There are nine Universities in the East Midlands:

The universities' library services support over 162,930 students and 10,107 academic staff and offer 13,548 study spaces from 24 library buildings

The regionís university libraries hold over 5,183,388 million catalogued items of bookstock, and  585,095 periodical titles (many in electronic format). E-books may or may not be included in the bookstock figure depending on the library but they come to almost 4 million across the East Midlands region.

Each year they issue over 5.5 million items, and their users downloaded over 16 million articles in electronic form  and conducted over 23 million database searches (not including Nottingham and Northampton)

In 2012/13 there were 573 staff working in university libraries in the East Midlands
