Newsplan - national

Background: A national overview

Phase 1 of the national Newsplan 2000 project reached a very successful conclusion. 1,350 newspaper titles, including some lengthy runs of 150 years or more, were preserved on 30,000 reels of microfilm.

The British Library has now ceased the microfilming of newspapers and closed the British LIbrary Microfilm Unit. Information about NEWSPLAN 2000 Microfilm orders and a complete list of titles that have been microfilmed by the NEWSPLAN2000 Project can be found at:

Purchase of NEWSPLAN microfilm

British Newspaper Archive - this is separate to Newsplan but will be of interest to researchers wishing to access historic newspapers. The British Newspaper Archive is a partnership between the British Library and brightsolid online publishing to digitise up to 40 million newspaper pages from the British Library. This is a subscription service and is available also through a number of East Midlands and East of England libraries. See: Electronic resources in public libraries
