Adult Learners Week

Give outstanding adult learners the recognition they deserve!

If you know someone whose remarkable learning achievements deserve recognition and could inspire others,  NIACE wants to hear from you with a  nomination for the Adult Learners' Week Awards 2009.

The awards are a great way of celebrating the achievements of learners and, in doing so, encouraging others to get involved as well. Winners come from a variety of backgrounds, but all have remarkable learning stories which inspire others to have a go.

There is a variety of awards for learners who have learnt as individuals, in a group or as a family, as well as the Opening Doors Awards for projects whose innovative approach motivates and inspires learners.

Everyone nominated will receive a Certificate of Achievement, and the winners will be invited to an awards ceremony and receive a learning voucher. Making a nomination is straightforward and easy - and can be done online or by post. Closing date 5pm, Wednesday 21 January 2009

Online nomination forms are available on the website at www.alw.org.uk.

You can order printed nomination forms by clicking here

Motivate, Learn, Lead - dates of new programme announced  {8 Oct 2008} shimAdd News18 to Scrapbook

Details of the next Motivate, Learn, Lead cross-sectoral leadership programme for library staff working in the East Midlands have been released.

Previous programmes have been highly successful and LIEM has been awarded the CILIP Seal of Recognition for this innovative programme. Feedback from past participants has been extremely positive – here’s just a couple of their comments about the value of Motivate, Learn, Lead :

“Fantastic opportunity to meet colleagues from other sectors, hear some inspirational speakers and to learn about a wider range of practical techniques and tools that will be really useful for your work”.

“Excellent for recognising how much you are already a leader and what areas you need to develop in order to be the type of leader you really want to be. Excellent for anyone managing individuals or teams. The learning can be immediately applied to real work and home situations..”

Both previous Motivate, Learn, Lead programmes have included library staff working in public, higher and further education, health and special libraries in the East Midlands and the cross-sectoral mix of participants is a very real strength of this programme.

The next programme will begin with an introductory half-day session on Wednesday 3rd December and there will be four one-day modules between January and April 2009. A half-day review session will also be held in autumn 2009.

The sessions will be held at the Nottinghamshire Archives Office on Castle Meadow Road, Nottingham. Limited parking is available at the Archives Office but it is within very easy reach of a number of public car parks, and the bus and railways stations.

Twelve places are available on the Motivate, Learn, Lead programme and details of how to apply are included in the attached information. The cost of the programme is heavily subsidised by Libraries and Information East Midlands and the fee per participant will be £200 for LIEM member organisations and £299 for non-member organisations.

The closing date for nominations is Monday 27th October – places will be confirmed by 4th November. As timescales are short please help by ensuring that colleagues in your organisation are aware of this opportunity and encouraged to apply. Kath Owen or Lynn Hodgkins would be pleased to answer any questions you may have about the programme – contact details both are provided on the information attached below.

East Midlands Oral History Archive  {23 Jun 2008} shimAdd News13 to Scrapbook

The East Midlands Oral History Archive is conducting an census of oral history holdings and projects in the East Midlands. We would like people across the region from libraries, museums, archives and community groups to contact us with information about their oral history.

The EMOHA website has pages dedicated to listing oral history across the region -  - but the information is far from complete. Our hope is that we can eventually present the information by subject as well as geographical location, making it a more useful guide to the huge number of recordings in the East Midlands. In the longer term there is a need to digitise the region's oral history and conducting this census will help to state the case for resources to be spent in this direction.

Please contact Colin Hyde at the address below with details to add to the website, for a chat, or so Colin can email you a form for you to fill in.
Thank you.

LIEM has been awarded the CILIP Seal of Recognition for its contribution to continuing professional development for the library and information community.

The application for organisational accreditation provided the opportunity to give an overview of LIEM's strategic vision, objectives and priorities and to show how we have a unique role in bringing together library staff working in all sectors of the library and information services domain.

LIEM's Motivate, Learn, Lead cross-sectoral leadership programme for middle managers formed the basis of the submission to CILIP and the assessment panel report commented very positively on the quality of the documentation provided, and the way in which we have consulted, planned, managed, delivered and evaluated the programme.
