The Effective Manager will help you develop confidence and leadership behaviours. It will be especially helpful for people considering management as a next career step. This workshop is designed for delegates who may not be line managers yet they achieve results through motivating and managing others.

About the Facilitator
The programme will be facilitated by Diana Edmonds of Bridgford Consultancy.
Bridgford Consultancy works with organisations - in the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors - to develop leadership, team-working and customer service.
Diana has worked with library staff on many previous occasions and lead LIEM’s successful and well regarded cross-sectoral Motivate, Learn, Lead programme for middle managers. Diana is passionate about the importance of people development in achieving organisational success.

 ‘Past, Present & Future’ will be held at EMOHA, 1 Salisbury Rd, Leicester on Wednesday 26th June 2013. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Leicester Oral History Archive starting the formal recording of oral histories in the city (how many other groups started via the Manpower Services Commission?).

As we look back on the achievements of the last 30 years we can also take stock of what we are doing at the moment and look forward to what might happen in the future. As usual, we have a variety of interesting and informative speakers including Wendy Freer on using digital sound in small museums, Dr Simon Dixon on the ‘digital humanities’, and Roger Kitchen on the work of the ‘Living Archive’ in Milton Keynes.

A full timetable will be distributed closer to the day but the times will be approx. 10am to 4pm, lunch will not be provided and it should be noted that there is no disabled access to the room we will be using, our apologies for this. To cover costs there will be an admission charge of £5 (£3 for students, retired, unwaged).

Interlend 2013

The Forum for Interlending and Information Delivery (FIL) are delighted to confirm that the only UK annual conference specifically for and about the world of inter-library loans, Interlend 2013, will take place on the 27th – 28th June at the The Maldron Hotel, Cardiff.  Once again this will be an essential opportunity for inter-lending staff to meet, exchange news and best practice experiences with their colleagues across the public, academic and special library sectors. 

Speakers and Theme

The core conference theme for 2013 is "Interlend 101: Back to Basics”, and as always the focus will be on providing practical guidance and advice from enthusiastic and knowledgeable speakers from throughout the profession.  There will also be a tour of Cardiff Public Library.

We are delighted this year to have two keynotes to start both days, Prof Charles Oppenhiem and Graham P Cornish, who are both well versed in all things copyright, but will be taking two different approaches.

National Acquisitions Group Conference 2013 will once again be held at the Royal York Hotel, York, on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th September.
 

The traditional image of a library continues to evolve as libraries and the services offered continue to adapt and change. Libraries up and down the country are constantly developing successful processes and strategies, adapting their ways of working as technology continues to develop, and continually turning what were considered to be challenges into opportunities. With this in mind, and thinking about sharing ideas and practices in order to look to the future, the theme for this year’s conference will be ‘Sharing Today, Securing Tomorrow’.
 

NAG’s Conference will provide the opportunity to hear about various developments and strategies through a mixture of workshops and plenary sessions from practitioners from a wide variety of backgrounds, who can share their experience in areas such as Shared Services, Print PDA, RDA, RFID, as well as strategies for accelerated adoption of digital resources, among other topics.We will be able to share more information on content as soon as it is available.

As in previous years, there will be numerous opportunities to network with publishers and library suppliers, and colleagues in both public and academic libraries, as well as a chance to share your own knowledge and experience.

The timetable will be  compact, and will involve only one night’s stay for most delegates. The cost has been held at the same level as the past 3 years (£325 for members, £375 for non-members) until the end of July, after which there will be a slight increase to £350/ £400.

Booking will open later in April, as will advertising and sponsorship opportunities
